Overview

Purpose

CatchmentSIM is currently not available directly for download from the Catchment Modelling Toolkit. Please contact Catchment Simulation Solutions for pricing information (or refer to Brochure below).

CatchmentSIM is a stand-alone GIS based terrain analysis program that is designed to help setup hydrologic models. The program is used to automatically delineate subcatchment(s) and calculate their associated spatial and topographic characteristics to assist in assigning suitable hydrologic modelling parameters.

The delineated subcatchments and their hydrologic attributes can be directly exported from CatchmentSIM to any third party hydrologic model. This is achieved by a flexible result export macro language with built-in macro scripts which enable creation of input files for a wide range of software (e.g., RAFTS, DRAINS, WBNM, RORB, URBS).

Please visit the CatchmentSIM Website for more detailed information.

Target user group

CatchmentSIM is designed for use by anyone interested in automated catchment delineation and parameterisation from GIS data. Comprehensive documentation is available from our Online Help Site.

Complexity

CatchmentSIM is an advanced geo-processing application and should be used by those with a competent understanding of GIS. However, the CatchmentSIM website http://www.csse.com.au provides a large amount of instructional information and an easy to understand tutorial.

Example applications

CatchmentSIM has been used to help setup models for a wide range of water resource management projects, flood and floodplain management studies, hydrologic investigations, water quality studies, environmental flow investigations and urban stormwater projects in over 50 countries.

Overview of features, advantage and benefits

CatchmentSIM features include:

  • Utilise a wide range of data sources including raster, TIN, contour and spot height based models (including LiDAR).
  • Supports all common map projections.
  • Delineate subcatchment and stream networks complete with Horton ordering and a full range of hydrologic attributes.
  • Automatically breakup a catchment based on multiple criteria.
  • Automatic calculation of impervious proportions.
  • Supports a wide range of raster background imagery and allows 3D rendering of terrain.
  • Automatically develop stage – area – volume curves for reservoirs.
  • Chart a wide range of hydrologic attributes
  • Model urban flow including fence lines.
  • Inbuilt advanced analysis including SCS Curve Nuber, PRM, GSDM PMP and zonal statistics.
  • A raster calculator allows advanced calculations to be undertaken for any grid or vector layer.
  • Export layers to a variety of third party GIS applications including ArcGIS, MapInfo and Google Earth, or integrate with any other software via our macro language.
  • Seamless integration with 12d and XP-SWMM models for mapping of pit/inlet/node catchments and flow paths.
  • Smoothing of generated stream networks and subcatchment boundaries (while preserving topology)
